Workshop on Social Stigma and Its Effects Related to Addiction at the Administrative Technical Institute in Basra

The Studies and Planning Division at the Administrative Technical Institute in Basra organized an awareness workshop titled “Social Stigma and Its Effects Related to Addiction.” The workshop aimed to highlight the negative impacts of social stigma on individuals recovering from addiction and their families, as well as ways to reduce this phenomenon in society.

Dr. Iman Askar Hawi, Assistant Dean for Administrative Affairs, attended the workshop alongside several department and unit heads and employees.

The workshop addressed the concept of social stigma, particularly concerning individuals recovering from addiction, and how stigma can act as a barrier to their reintegration into society. Discussions also focused on the importance of raising awareness about the community’s role in supporting recovering individuals and encouraging them to build a new, addiction-free life.

The workshop emphasized the need for collaboration between educational and social institutions to promote a culture of tolerance and awareness of the dangers of social stigma. This was recognized as a crucial step in combating addiction and supporting recovery efforts.

This workshop is part of a series of awareness activities organized by the institute to enhance community awareness of important social and health issues.
