The Psychological Counseling Unit at the Technical Administrative Institute in Basra Organizes an Awareness Workshop on “Honoring Parents”
The Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit at the Technical Administrative Institute in Basra organized an awareness workshop on Sunday morning titled “Honoring Parents,” presented by Assistant Lecturer Haneen Mahmoud Ibrahim, with the attendance of Dr. Iman Askar Hawi and a number of institute professors and students.
The workshop aimed to raise awareness about the importance of honoring parents as a religious and social value that contributes to strengthening family and societal cohesion. The workshop covered Quranic verses and prophetic hadiths that call for kindness to parents, while discussing their positive impact on building individual character and establishing moral values in society.
The workshop also included a legal component, highlighting the crime of parental disobedience according to Iraqi Penal Code No. 111 of 1969 (amended) and explaining the resulting penalties, along with reviewing provisions derived from Islamic Sharia and the Iraqi Constitution, which added an integrated religious and legal dimension.
The workshop witnessed significant interaction from students through questions and interventions, which enriched the discussion and highlighted their interest in the topic.
At the conclusion of the workshop, Dr. Iman Askar Hawi praised the lecturer’s efforts and the outstanding organization of the event, emphasizing that such activities contribute to raising students’ cultural, religious, and legal awareness. Participants also commended the institute’s role in organizing events that promote moral values and support building an aware and cohesive society.
